Shooting Film – I know, I know—I’ve talked about taking a break from film these past few months. Life happens, and sometimes you need to step back, reset, and let the inspiration come back around naturally. But every time I load a new roll and develop those negatives, I’m reminded why I ever fell in love with film in the first place. The look. The tones. The feel. These images touch something deep in me every single time.

And here’s the thing: I’ve never once looked at a digital photo and gotten chills from how it felt. Sure, I’ve appreciated digital work—it’s sharp, convenient, and clean. But with film? Man… I get chills every time I see those first frames come out of the developer. Isn’t that kind of wild? That the texture and soul of a film photo can still hit me like that, every time?

There are a lot of smart voices in the photography world who will tell you that the medium doesn’t matter. That the subject, the content, the story—it’s all that counts. And I get that. I really do. But when a medium can enhance that subject, elevate it, give it a kind of presence that stops you in your tracks—how can I say that doesn’t matter? For me, photography is about feeling. It’s about mood. And film? Film delivers that in a way digital just can’t.

Anyone who knows me knows I have a deep, unwavering love for Fujifilm Neopan ACROS. That stock gives me those rich, velvety blacks, the smoothest highlights, and tones that just melt. There’s a poetry to it. A rhythm. It renders a world that feels just a little more timeless, a little more dreamlike. I don’t shoot it because it’s nostalgic—I shoot it because it’s beautiful.

Shooting film has become something more than a process for me. It’s a spiritual thing now. Meditative, even. With film, you slow down. You notice. You connect. There’s no digital menu to scroll through, no preview screen to obsess over. No distractions. Just you, your subject, the light, and the click of the shutter. You trust yourself more. You feel the photograph before you even see it. And honestly? That’s one of my favorite parts. No chimping. No second-guessing. Just confidence.

Now look, I’m not saying everyone should ditch their digital gear and go full analog. Every artist finds the tools that speak to them. But for me? You know which one I choose. Every frame I shoot on film is a memory, sealed in silver and light. It’s not just a photo—it’s magic.
