Natural vs Posed

September 30, 2014 By Ted Leave a Comment

During a photo shoot there are many poses that a model will strike. To me, often the simplest approach can be the best.

I’m not a big fan of shots where, IMHO, the model has obviously been posed by the photographer. Not that posing like that won’t create amazing shots, it really can create some stunning and even iconic work. Personally, I’m just more partial to having a photo look a little more natural in terms of the models poses and expressions. It makes the shot more believable to me. I’m able to feel more from the photograph.

This kind of thing is always subjective as art always should be.

Jonny is someone who is great to shoot with. Of course she is quite beautiful, but is also able to relax and deliver beautiful, natural and commanding looks and expressions for each shot. This is a simple, but powerful portrait from the very first shoot we did together.
