Natural vs Posed II

October 1, 2014 By Ted Leave a Comment

Just in case there was any confusion from my last post in which I mentioned how I wasn’t normally a big fan of images in which the model looked like she or he was obviously posed by the photographer. (and, as I stated, there’s nothing wrong with that look – just not my personal preference)

However, that doesn’t mean I’m against posing in general, and of course posing occurs in the kind of photography I do. If there wasn’t posing then it would be just a candid shot. (which I also love) I just mean I like it when the pose comes naturally from the model. I’ll give general suggestions sometimes, but then I like to let the model take it from there and make it their own. I’ve just found, for my personal tastes, that I can feel more from that type of image… I feel like I’m getting something that is more real.

For example, this shot of Jonny (from the same shoot as yesterday’s post), she is obviously posing in this shot, but the pose is coming from her. To me it’s very believable.
