Friedrich Nietzsche once said, “God is in the details.” That was running through my mind yesterday during a location shoot I was doing at Trophy Performance, an independent Porsche service center here in Vegas. I was getting some shots of a new employee, the shop, some of the cars and some of the equipment that really sets this shop apart from most in it’s category.
All of the cars in the shop are pretty amazing but there’s one in the shop that always catches my eye and I can’t help but shoot it every time go down there. The automobile of which I speak is a classic Packard Twelve. Really beautiful vehicle. For any of you who know me very well know that I love most things retro. This is no exception. Amazing lines, curves, details, craftsmanship…
The thing is, the Packard is usually parked in a setting that might not be so photogenic, with lots of other cars and mechanic equipment in the scene. So yesterday I just decided to go for the detail shots. Close in, shallow DOF. I love this kind of stuff and I think shooting subjects that seem to be from an earlier period of time really suits the Fuji ACROS film simulation. It’s a good fit.
