Ghosts and the Aesthetic of the Past

December 2, 2019 by Ted
Ghosts - And the Aesthetic of the Past

I’ve been wanting to put together a book for a long, long time. Usually at the beginning of each year I would think something to the effect of, “Hmmm, maybe I’ll do a book this year.” Well, each year would come and go, sans-book.

This year is different. I’m proud to say that I finally have published a book. It’s a small book. Perfect.

One of the things that stopped me from publishing before this is that it just seemed like publishing a book was too monumental of a task. This year I remedied that by deciding to start publishing small project books. That got things rolling.

My first project: Ghosts – And the Aesthetic of the Past

This book is a collection of one of my favorite subjects… old stuff. The book is primarily focused on the design aspects of the automobiles of the mid-twentieth century. Not newly restored, shiny and polished. No. These subjects are shown to be beautifully decaying.

So much charm. So much character. I miss this attention to design and detail that I rarely see these days.

All of the photos in this book were shot on 35mm film. It just seemed the most fitting way to honor these classics.

If this sounds like something you’d like, Ghosts – And the Aesthetic of the Past is available online, both in physical print and downloadable at MagClound.com.

You can use the link below to preview the book. (and maybe even purchase, yes?)

There are many times when I will think to myself, “I believe I was born about 50 years too late.” Don’t get me wrong; it’s not that I don’t appreciate the times that I do live in and the things that exist today that weren’t even thought of back in the mid-twentieth century. But when it comes to music, photography, style, aesthetics and craftsmanship… man, there is something to be said for the way we used to do things. When I refer to…

Film Nerd Stuff

All of the photos of this book were shot on one of my favorite film stocks, Fujifilm Neopan ACROS 100, all pushed to EI 400. This is one of the most beautiful films in my opinion. Although I do love Kodak Tri-X (and maybe Tri-X might have even seemed a little more appropriate for this subject matter, but…) I wanted to have my first project be on ACROS.

The only camera I used my my favorite; my Leica M6 Classic (1995) with my Summicron 35mm and 50mm lenses.

All film was developed using Kodak HC-110 (b), 68°F/20°C, 10 minutes.

Okay, I think that’s about as much nerdy stuff as I can think of. Now go check it out!
