AI -Such A Powerful Tool for Storytellers – Man, for anyone who knows me, you know how old-school I am. I really am often not that fond of technological “advancements.” I’ve often spoke about how I think that cameras today do too much of the work for us. I think having to do all the work manually; know exposure settings in your head; stuff like that, really enhances the experience of photography for us.

That being said (and I do really feel that way) I’ve got some thoughts on AI that might shock some of you.

I’ve recently started playing around with AI image generators so that I could pass that on to my clients for creating their own content for their businesses. I have to say, it has been a lot of fun and I’ve learned a lot.

Seductive, For Sure

Man, I really expected to not like AI for creating images. As I mentioned, I’m old school. But that hasn’t been the case. It’s been some of the most rewarding time I’ve spent making images lately. I’ve spent a fair amount of time this week thinking of “new” stories, then working to create those stories as images using AI.

Once I got started it was hard to stop. If you’re a photographer that really loves that strong sense of story and feel in your images… man, you will love playing with this.

Will AI Replace Conventional Photography

Well, as far as commercial uses, yes, of course. Just think of the dollars corporate will save not having to fun photo shoots. No hiring of photographers, studios, models, makeup artists…. AI will surely take over this market.

But for artists and creatives, we will still use whatever tools we enjoy using to create. And it’s all valid. Whether it’s a camera, a paint brush, pencil and paper, and yes, AI; these are all valide creative tools.

Photography will always be around. It’s not going anywhere. It’s to exciting and rewarding. We just need to make room for this new character on the scene.

AI has been such an amazing partner to work with this week in creating the stories that are in my head. Yes, it has been seductive. But as amazing and fun as it has been, for me, I still enjoy the process of doing proper photography, working with other people to create those stories… even more. That human interaction… that can never be replaced… for me.

But I’m sure I’ll continue to use AI in this manner. Man, it’s just another creative tool, and it is just too much fun.
