I find I derive a lot of inspiration from the visual settings around me. One thing that draws me to certain cities is its architecture, and the preservation of such. I tend to gravitate more to older styles of design. It’s hard to find a lot of that kind of thing in Vegas, because unfortunately when a building begins to get a little “long in the tooth” it gets BLOWN UP!
I just finished a short visit to Portland, OR, where I used to live for a little over 15 years. I really love Portland. I love the diversity, the sense of culture, the artistic community, the food, the river, and yes, the Architecture. I love seeing buildings from the past still being used and maintained.
When I lived in PDX, one of the apartment buildings I lived in was built in 1906. I used to stand in my third floor apartment (w/no elevator!) looking out the window down onto the street and I would wonder what the view was like back in the 1910s, ’20s, ’30s, ’40s, and so on… What were the people like who lived in my apartment throughout the 20th century. Anyway, I find stuff like that very interesting to think about.
Anywhoo, here are a few shots I took during my visit. I love this kind of scenery!
