I’m one of the 3gs users that have been waiting and waiting (and waiting) for Apple to lunch the next iPhone. My 3gs was on it’s last legs but I was determined to make it last until it’s replacement showed up.
Short, Uhm Well, Not Too Long….
Friday I was out taking my Fuji x100 for a test drive (click here to see my story on that) and on the way home I got a text from my friend, Garrett that he had his new iPhone 4s. I didn’t think they were supposed to hit the stores until the 17th.
I was near the Fashion Show Mall, so I quickly made my way there, parked and ran to the Apple store. I went up to the Apple employees standing at the entrance and asked them, “Any iPhones left?”
“Yep,” they said. (or something like that)
I was a little surprised but happy and started to make my way into the store.
“Uhhhh, the line starts back there,” they told me as the pointed to a line outside the store that luckily only had about 20-30 people standing there.
Happy to conform I took my place at the end of the line. For something like this, it’s kind of like going to Disneyland to me… the rides are so cool that even standing in line is fun for me!
After about an hour I was walking out with my shiny new Apple product.
As everyone has heard, the iPhone’s camera has seen much improvement (especially coming from the 3gs camp).
Here are a few of my favorites:
- faster start up time (that drove me crazy with the 3gs)
- can start up from the lock screen (awesome!)
- 8mp sensor
- an improved 5 elements lens
- 1080p HD video• the Up volume button can function as the shutter button
- some minor on-camera editing
Can You Sell Your DSLR Now? (How about at least your point-&-shoot?)
Point-&-Shoot, maybe, depending on what you’re using.
DSLR? Yeah, RIGHT!
The camera is nothing short of amazing for something that’s built into a phone so you can have it with you all the time. But is it gonna give you pro results in average situations? No.
The pics are still to grainy for me. It still looks like an iPhone pic. Best results I’ve seen so far are taken in daylight settings outdoors.
But It Really Is Amazing!
For what this mobile device delivers in a phone, it really blows me away with what they’ve done.
A Few iPhone 4s Pics
Here are just a few snapshots I took with my new 4s in case you’re curious. Note: the only edits done to some of these images was a little Auto Enhance in Aperture, and of course all images were resized for the web.
